Your source for all terms, policies, and legal information that keep Looma safe and transparent.
Welcome to Looma. These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Looma platform, website, and mobile applications (collectively, "Services"). By accessing or using the Services, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, you may not use the Services.
You must be at least 18 years old to create a Looma account. Account creation requires adulthood to be declared or verified; if a person indicates they are under 18 during onboarding, account creation does not proceed. Children and adolescents do not create their own accounts. Instead, a verified adult may add a minor as a sub-profile under their own account, subject to the controls described in Section 9.
By creating an account, you represent and warrant that you are at least 18 years old and that any information you provide, including your age, is accurate and complete.
Looma operates a tiered access model based on age. The features and content available to a profile are determined by its age tier. Misrepresenting age — your own, or that of a sub-profile you create — to access features or content outside the permitted tier is a violation of these Terms and may result in immediate account termination.
You are solely responsible for the content you post and your interactions with others on Looma. You agree not to use Looma for any unlawful purpose, to violate any rights of others, or to engage in harassment, spam, or harmful conduct.
You retain ownership of any content you create or share on Looma. By posting content, you grant Looma a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to use, display, reproduce, and distribute your content solely in connection with operating and promoting the Services.
Looma reserves the right to suspend or terminate your account at any time, without notice, if we believe you have violated these Terms or engaged in conduct that harms the community or the integrity of the Services.
We may modify these Terms from time to time. If changes are material, we will notify you by posting the updated Terms on our website or through the app. Your continued use of the Services after such changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
The Services are provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind. Looma disclaims all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Looma and its affiliates shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenues, arising from your use of the Services.
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the jurisdiction in which Looma operates, without regard to its conflict of law principles.
Except where prohibited by law, you and Looma agree that any dispute, claim, or controversy arising out of or relating to these Terms or your use of the Services will be resolved through binding individual arbitration, rather than in court, except that either party may bring an individual action in small claims court, and either party may seek injunctive or other equitable relief in court to prevent actual or threatened infringement, misappropriation, or violation of a party's intellectual property or confidentiality rights.
You and Looma each agree to bring claims only in an individual capacity, and not as a plaintiff or class member in any purported class, collective, or representative proceeding. The arbitrator may not consolidate more than one person's claims and may not otherwise preside over any form of a representative or class proceeding.
If you do not want to be bound by this arbitration agreement, you must notify Looma in writing at legal@looma.social within 30 days of the date you first agree to these Terms. Your opt-out notice must include your name, the email address associated with your account, and a clear statement that you decline to participate in arbitration. Opting out of arbitration does not affect any other part of these Terms.
This section does not apply to a claim brought on behalf of a minor for harm arising from their use of the Services as a sub-profile, where applicable law does not permit such a claim to be subject to an arbitration agreement entered into by the verified adult who created the sub-profile.
If you have any questions about these Terms, please contact us at legal@looma.social.
Looma is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy outlines how we collect, use, and safeguard your personal information when you use our Services.
We may collect personal data such as your email address, phone number, and location, as well as content you upload, messages you send, and technical data such as device information and IP address.
Name is optional. Adult account holders may choose to add any name to their profile, so that friends can find them through search, as described in Section 2.11. You are not required to provide your legal name, and account creation does not require this field to be completed. Minor sub-profiles do not have a name field of their own; the verified adult who creates a sub-profile chooses whatever name or nickname is displayed for it.
Your data is used to provide and improve the Services, facilitate communication, ensure user safety, and personalize your experience. We may also use anonymized data for analytics and product development.
Looma uses automated, AI-based systems, alongside human review, to screen text, images, and video for safety and policy violations. All text content is screened in real time before publication or delivery, and image and video content is scanned to detect harmful or exploitative material. This processing is a safety function, not an advertising or profiling function: content screened by these systems is not used to build advertising profiles or shared with third parties for marketing purposes.
Enforcement decisions arising from moderation, such as content removal or account suspension, may be flagged by automated systems in the first instance but are subject to human review as described in Sections 8 and 10. If you believe an enforcement action was taken in error, you may contact safety@looma.social to request review.
Where you choose to add a location to a post, that location is used only to display alongside your content as you have written it and is not used for advertising, tracking, or any purpose beyond that post.
Looma uses AdMob to serve ads. For verified adult (18+) profiles, ads may be personalized based on device identifiers, subject to your device's tracking permission settings. For all other safety tiers, and whenever a device's tracking permission is not granted, ads are served on a non-personalized basis. AdMob does not receive or use device location data through Looma.
We do not sell your personal data. We may share information with trusted service providers who support our platform, or when legally required by law enforcement or regulatory authorities.
We retain your information as long as necessary to provide the Services and as required by law. You may request deletion of your data by contacting us, subject to certain limitations.
We take reasonable steps to protect your data using industry-standard encryption and security practices. However, no system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute protection.
You have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data. You may also object to or restrict certain data uses, and withdraw consent where applicable by law.
Looma does not knowingly allow children under the age of 13 on the platform in any form. Sub-profiles indicating an age under 13 are not permitted, and if we learn one exists we take immediate steps to delete the associated data and disable the sub-profile.
Minors are present on Looma only as sub-profiles created and controlled by a verified adult. Because a minor does not create their own account, the responsible adult provides and manages the limited information associated with the sub-profile. For minor sub-profiles we apply strict data minimization: we collect only the data necessary to operate the platform safely for that age tier. We do not collect precise location data, do not serve behaviorally targeted advertising, and do not share data with third parties for marketing purposes for these users.
The verified adult who creates a sub-profile provides and consents to the processing of that minor's information at the time of creation, and exercises ongoing control over the sub-profile through their account, including PIN-gated profile switching. A parent or guardian may remove a sub-profile at any time, or contact us at privacy@looma.social, which will result in the sub-profile being disabled and the minor's data queued for deletion.
Minors and their parents or guardians have the right to access, correct, or request deletion of the minor's personal data at any time. Requests should be directed to privacy@looma.social.
Looma does not store age verification signals received from device operating-system platforms. When an age signal is received from Apple App Store or Google Play, it is used immediately to determine the user's safety tier. Only the resulting tier assignment, verification source, and verification status are stored — not the underlying signal data. Raw age signals are never persisted.
For users verified through credit card validation, Looma stores only the verification status. Card data is processed entirely by Stripe. Looma does not store card numbers, expiry dates, or any payment instrument details.
For users verified through community vouching, Looma stores the vouch relationship record (voucher account reference, declared relationship context, and timestamp). No identity documents are collected or stored as part of the vouching process.
For users verified through identity verification, Looma stores only the resulting verification status. Identity document data is processed by the identity verification provider. Looma does not store document images, document numbers, or biometric data.
Where an operating-system age signal is unavailable for any reason — platform, region, or otherwise — users are placed in Unverified status by default. Full platform access is only granted through independent verification. Signal unavailability cannot result in elevated access under any circumstances.
In all cases, Looma stores the minimum data necessary to maintain accurate safety tier assignment and nothing more. Users may contact privacy@looma.social to request confirmation of what age-related data is held against their account.
Looma allows adult account holders to search for other adult account holders by name, so that they can find and connect with people they know. This is the sole purpose for which the optional name field described in Section 2.1 is used.
Adult-to-minor search is not possible under any circumstance. An adult account can never search for, discover, or be shown a minor sub-profile, regardless of whether a name is known. Search results available to adult accounts are limited exclusively to other adult accounts.
Minor sub-profiles may search for and find other minor sub-profiles by the name or nickname their parent or guardian has assigned. Search does not disclose the identity of the searching party to the profile that was found, and no notification is sent as a result of a search.
A search result, on its own, grants no ability to contact, message, or follow another user. Where a minor sub-profile receives a follow request, that request cannot be accepted without the PIN of the verified adult who controls the sub-profile, as described in Section 9.3. The lowest age tiers have no communication features available regardless of search or follow status.
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. We will notify users of significant changes by updating the policy on our website and noting the effective date.
For questions about this Privacy Policy or your data, please contact us at privacy@looma.social.

This section explains how user accounts and billing-related services operate on Looma, including subscriptions, payments, and refunds where applicable.
To access certain features, users must create an account using accurate and complete information. You are responsible for keeping your credentials secure and for all activities under your account.
Some Looma features may be offered as premium subscriptions. These services are billed on a recurring basis and will renew automatically unless canceled before the end of the billing cycle.
Payments are securely processed through our authorized third-party providers. Looma does not store complete payment details on our servers.
Refund requests are handled on a case-by-case basis. To request a refund, contact billing@looma.social with the transaction details and reason for your request.
You may close your account at any time through your settings. Looma may suspend or terminate your account for violations of our terms or suspected fraud without prior notice.
We reserve the right to modify pricing or billing practices. If changes occur, we will notify affected users in advance through email or in-app notifications.
Looma maintains a strict Zero Tolerance Policy regarding abuse, discrimination, threats, and any form of harmful or illegal behavior on our platform. We are committed to providing a safe and respectful environment for all users.
This includes, but is not limited to:
Violations of this policy will result in immediate account suspension or permanent ban. We cooperate fully with law enforcement when required and report serious infractions as necessary.
If you witness or experience any violations of this policy, report them through the in-app reporting tools or by emailing safety@looma.social. All reports are taken seriously and investigated promptly.
Looma is committed to protecting minors online and upholding the highest standards of child safety. We maintain a strict zero-tolerance policy toward child sexual abuse material (CSAM), exploitation, or any behavior that endangers young users.
We do not permit any content, communication, or activity that exploits or endangers children. Violations will result in immediate removal and reporting to relevant law enforcement or child protection agencies.
Account creation on Looma is restricted to adults aged 18 and older. Onboarding requires adulthood to be declared or verified; if a person indicates an age under 18, account creation does not proceed and no standalone account is created. Minors access Looma only as sub-profiles created and managed by a verified adult. Sub-profiles indicating an age under 13 are not permitted, and any account discovered to have been created by a person under 18 is subject to immediate suspension.
Looma operates a tiered safety model. Features such as direct messaging, calling, and access to certain content categories are restricted based on a user's verified age. Users aged 13 to 15 have the most restricted access. Users aged 16 to 17 have supervised or independent minor access. Full platform features are available only to verified adults aged 18 and over. For a full breakdown of what each tier can access, see Section 9.
We use AI moderation tools, image scanning, and human review to detect and remove harmful or exploitative content. All text content is screened in real time before publication or delivery. Our systems prioritize protection of vulnerable users and flag violations for immediate action.
If you encounter any content or behavior that puts a child at risk, report it using the in-app tools or email safety@looma.social. Our designated child safety contact is childsafety@looma.social. All reports are taken seriously and handled confidentially.
Looma takes its obligations regarding minors seriously under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the Digital Services Act (DSA), applicable US state legislation including Texas SB 2420, and equivalent child protection legislation in other jurisdictions. This section explains how we verify adulthood at account creation, how minors are added as sub-profiles by a verified adult, and how we enforce access restrictions by age tier.
Looma uses a layered verification system to confirm adulthood at the point of account creation. Only adults may create accounts; the methods below are how an adult establishes that status. If a person declares an age under 18 during onboarding, account creation does not proceed. Self-declaration of adulthood alone places the account in Unverified status with read-only access — it is never sufficient for full access, which requires at least one of the independent verification methods below to be completed.
Minors do not undergo these verification methods. A minor exists only as a sub-profile under a verified adult's account, and the sub-profile's age tier is set and controlled by that adult.
Operating-System Age Signal (Primary). Where available, Looma reads age data from the user's Apple App Store or Google Play account. These platform signals are treated as the highest-confidence verification source and are the primary method used wherever they are available.
Credit Card Validation. Where OS signals are unavailable, adults may verify through a Stripe-processed payment-method check. Looma places a small refundable authorization hold (CA$0.50) to confirm the user controls a working adult payment method. The hold is never captured — it is authorized and released immediately, so no charge is ever made. Looma stores only the resulting verification status; card details are processed entirely by Stripe and are never stored by Looma.
QR Proximity Vouching. Adults without a card may be verified through in-person community vouching. The user generates a one-time QR code protected by screen security. A verified adult scans it in person and completes a structured declaration of their relationship to the user. One vouch from an identity-verified user, or three vouches from card-verified users, grants full verification. Users verified through vouching cannot themselves vouch for others.
Identity Verification. Users may complete identity verification through Looma's verification provider for the highest-trust pathway. Looma stores only the resulting verification status. Document data and biometric data are processed by the verification provider and are never stored by Looma.
Where no verification method can be completed, for any reason on any platform or in any region, the user is placed in Unverified status. Unverified accounts may browse public feeds in read-only mode but cannot follow, message, create content, participate in communities, or access governance functions. This is the default fail-safe state. Signal unavailability never results in elevated access.
The tiers below apply both to adult account holders and to the minor sub-profiles a verified adult creates. A profile's tier is determined by verified or adult-assigned age. Access to features on Looma is governed by the following age tiers:
Minors do not register on Looma. A minor is present only as a sub-profile created by a verified adult under that adult's own account. This means the responsible adult is identified and verified before any minor profile exists, and parental involvement is built into the architecture rather than collected through a separate consent step.
The verified adult who creates a sub-profile is responsible for the accuracy of the age tier assigned to it and for the minor's use of the platform. Profile switching is protected by a PIN set by the adult, preventing a minor from reaching adult-tier content or other profiles. The adult retains full control of the sub-profile at all times and may modify or remove it.
A parent or guardian may withdraw a minor's access at any time by removing the sub-profile or by contacting privacy@looma.social. Upon removal, the sub-profile is disabled and the minor's personal data is queued for deletion in accordance with our data retention policy.
Looma records the tier assignment, verification source, and verification status for each account. Raw verification data is never stored. The trust level applied to each source is as follows:
Looma periodically re-checks age signals from the device platform. If a re-check returns a result inconsistent with the user's stored age tier, the account may be flagged for review and access may be temporarily restricted pending resolution.
Verification is treated as an ongoing process, not a one-time event. Every profile, conversation, and community member list includes a dedicated "Report as Minor" option, separate from content reports. Any user may flag an account they believe belongs to someone under 18.
When an account is flagged, it is immediately downgraded to Unverified status and the account holder receives a re-verification prompt within 24 hours. Successful re-verification restores access. Failure to re-verify within 7 days results in account closure or routing to the parent sub-profile pathway. Reports are handled confidentially and the reporting user's identity is not disclosed to the reported party.
Looma enforces mandatory usage limits and forced break intervals for all minor users. These limits are applied automatically based on the user's age tier and cannot be disabled by the user. The limits are designed to comply with emerging regulatory requirements around addictive design and screen time for minors.
For any questions regarding parental consent, age verification, or the rights of minors on Looma, please contact us at privacy@looma.social or our designated child safety contact at childsafety@looma.social.
Looma is built on authentic human connection. To protect the integrity and trust of our community, the posting or sharing of AI-generated content is strictly prohibited across all areas of the platform. This policy applies to all users, all account types, and all content formats.
The following types of AI-generated content are explicitly banned on Looma:
Looma's mission is rooted in real relationships, between friends, within communities, and between donors and people in need through Looma Gives. AI-generated content undermines the authenticity that makes those relationships meaningful. It erodes trust, distorts community dynamics, and creates an uneven experience where synthetic content competes with genuine human expression. This policy exists to keep Looma a space where every voice is real.
Looma uses a combination of automated detection, community reporting, and human moderation to identify AI-generated content. Enforcement actions are applied based on the severity and frequency of violations:
Looma reserves the right to escalate cases involving AI-generated content that violates applicable law, including laws governing non-consensual intimate imagery, defamation, or fraud, to relevant law enforcement or regulatory authorities.
The limited use of AI tools for personal productivity, such as spell-checking, grammar correction, or translation, is not prohibited, provided the final content genuinely reflects your own ideas and voice. If you use AI assistance to draft content that you then substantially rewrite and personalize, that use falls outside this policy's prohibition. However, content that is primarily AI-generated remains prohibited regardless of how it is framed or disclosed.
If you share content that incorporates AI tools in a transparent, clearly disclosed, and non-deceptive way, for example, a post explicitly discussing your use of an AI tool as the subject of the post, Looma may use discretion in determining whether such content is consistent with the spirit of this policy.
If you encounter content you believe has been generated by AI in violation of this policy, use the in-app report function on the relevant post or profile and select "Inauthentic or AI-generated content." You may also report violations directly by emailing safety@looma.social with a link to the content and a brief description of your concern. All reports are reviewed by our moderation team.
